Paradox. It’s where tons of gems are found. Try some of these on for size.
In death, there is life
In weakness, we find strength
The last shall be first
The humble shall be exalted
Lose your life… and find it
And here’s one we live with every single day:
Certainty in uncertainty.

🔁 The Paradox We Live In
I’ve been thinking about this idea:
“One’s potential is proportional to the amount of uncertainty they can tolerate.”
We spend our lives trying to create certainty.
Systems in business
Routines in fitness
Habits of all kinds
Why? Because certainty produces consistent results.
We build routines so we certainly brush our teeth.
Because we certainly have a dentist appointment.
And we’d like to certainly hear: “0 cavities.”
So we stack small certainties to increase the likelihood of a desired outcome.
🤔 But It’s Not Always Certain
Even when you do everything right…
Some outcomes arent’t guaranteed.
Train 5 days a week for 2 hours → no guarantee you hit your Ironman time
Brush your teeth every day → still possible to get a cavity
That’s life.
You can increase certainty…
…but you can’t always eliminate uncertainty.
🌅 That Sounds Like… Faith
This is where it clicked for me.
“Ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.” — Alma 32
Put into today’s conversation:
While I hope for what I cannot see… I make certain that I act in alignment with that hope.
That’s the faith and works combo → Not dead.
📊 The Certainty Scale
Think about it like a scale from 0–100%.
How certain are you that your business will succeed?
Maybe not very.
But what can you do to increase that number?
Make more sales calls
Improve your systems
Hire better people
Cut erroneous costs
You can’t control everything…
But you can move from 20% → 40% → 60%.
How certain are you that you’ll win the F5 bracket challenge? (Not beating my bracket that’s for sure ;)
You can research more… but there are too many variables outside your control.
Obviously in a super low stakes group the uncertainty is why we love it!
We wouldn’t ever put something really important at such odds. Would we?
⚖️ The Balance
Waiting for 100% certainty → you’ll never begin
Jumping with 0% certainty → you’re doomed to fail
This life is fragile.
Even the most “secure” situations can shift overnight.
Do we ever really get above 50% certainty?
Maybe. Maybe not.
The world we live in today does not have a “no risk” option.
The only certainty is in divinity, but even that requires faith!
It’s up to you to get intentional with the risks you tolerate.
💪 The Challenge
Ask these questions this week:
1️⃣ What can I make more certain?
What’s in your control that you’ve been avoiding?
Your habits
Your routines
Your discipline
Your effort
Lock it in.
2️⃣ Where do I need more faith?
Where have you:
analyzed
planned
thought it through
…but still haven’t started?
Build certainty where you can.
Where you can’t, walk forward in faith amid the uncertainty.
