🌱 “Hey Dad, Can I Go Pick 50 Weeds?”

That’s the exact phrase my 5-year-old asked me this week.

Not because I forced him… but because he’s learning something powerful:

👉 How to create value.

That’s exactly what this week is about.

💬 What Is Money, Really?

We’re often taught:

“Get a good job that pays good money.”

Or

“We don’t have enough for that.”

Let’s rethink that.

Money is nothing but a store of value.

Say it again:

💡 Money is a byproduct of value creation.

Stop chasing money. Start asking: How can I create value?

📘 Recommended Read: Value Creation Kid by Scott Donnell

Scott Donnell is a leader in financial literacy for families. He’s helped millions of parents teach their kids that money follows value, not the other way around.

He breaks value creation into three areas:

  1. Material Value – Doing or making things that serve others

  2. Emotional Value – Encouraging, uplifting, connecting

  3. Spiritual Value – Meaning, faith, eternal purpose

🏠 How We Run Our “Home Economy”

We divide our system into two parts:

1. Responsibilities (Unpaid but Essential)

  • Make your bed

  • Clean your room

  • Do the dishes

  • Say your prayers

These are expectations. No payment. No negotiation.

Paying kids for existing is socialism at its worst.

2. Gigs (Optional, Paid Opportunities to Add Value)

These are tasks that create real value—and get rewarded:

  • Mop the floor: $3

  • Pick 50 weeds (at the roots): $2

  • Read a nonfiction article & explain it to me: $5

  • Propose your own gig? Even better.

Gigs teach kids that value drives compensation—not entitlement.

😬 Speaking of Entitlement…

Ever been to one of those frozen yogurt shops that ask you to tip 25%…

…for self-serve?!!

We’re living in a world where value and effort are being separated.

If we’re not careful, we’ll raise entitled kids who grow into entitled men—and we’ll suffer for it.

That’s why now is the time to lead.

💪 F5 Application – What Value Are You Creating This Week?

Faith – Can you uplift someone spiritually today?

Family – Can you teach, model, or reward value creation in your home?

Fitness – How are you creating physical vitality for yourself and others?

Finance – Where are you generating real value in your business or work?

Fun – Where can you refresh others with intentional joy?

Creating value isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a forever gig.

🎯 Your Weekly Challenge: Launch a Home Economy

  1. Define basic, unpaid responsibilities for your kids (or yourself).

  2. Create 3–5 value-based gigs they can earn from.

  3. Bonus: Let them propose one gig of their own.

Final Thought:

You were meant to create value.

Not just hit a dollar goal and coast into retirement.

Whether it’s for your spouse, your church, your business, or your grandkids—

value creation is your job.

It’s our calling as men.

Let’s build homes (and legacies) that reflect that.

Until next time,
